Women make up 50% of the U.S. workforce, but only 30% of the workforce in STEM fields. Economic prosperity depends on a diverse group of people in high growth sectors such as STEM. When considering women's economic inclusion, an important conversation focuses on how to attract more women and girls into STEM fields and ensure that they are able to succeed. During this interactive session, our panelists will discuss what the future of STEM could look like with more inclusion.

This interactive and intergenerational workshop will begin with some reflections on feminist identity from Baby Boomer, GenX and Millennial perspectives. It will ask participants to consider how, why, and whether they identity as feminist in their personal and professional lives; how their identities and understandings of feminism have changed over time; and how feminism fits (or not) with other dimensions of identity which are a source of strength or self-reflection.

The enslavement of those of African descent marked the beginnings of a system of racial injustice from which our country has yet to break free. In today’s dynamic and interconnected world, inclusive leadership is more critical than ever. This session will focus on the evolution of government and public service leadership in the 21 st century, and where we need to go from here to ensure leadership of the future reflects the society we live in.

In this experiential workshop for women in all career stages and industries, she will help you use Design Thinking to prototype possible futures for your career that consider your values and other variables. Together, you will conceive, design and prototype the path ahead, back-cast what would need to be true to set you on that path, and leave with tools and a bias toward action to take your first steps.

Managing in the 21st century presents greater challenges due to the increased use of teams and the need to work effectively across cultures and diverse groups. Teams have emerged as a favored work arrangement for such activities as developing new products, providing professional services, and starting new businesses. Within and across cultures, managers must learn to deal with people that come from various backgrounds and have different values and ways of communicating. Those that develop cross-cultural intelligence will be more successful. This workshop will look at how to lead teams more effectively - from designing teams to managing interpersonal dynamics.

The term unconscious bias refers to the way in which the brain routinely and rapidly sorts people into different groups, bypassing normal, rational and logical thinking. Regardless of how fair-minded we believe ourselves to be, all people have some degree of unconscious bias, and many people even hold unconscious bias towards the group that they belong to. Join our alumnae experts for a workshop designed to uncover your unconscious biases and discuss ways to identify and mitigate for them in the future.
