Citlalli Alvarez (C'15)

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast

Senior Field Organizer

Citlalli Alvarez Almendariz is an undocumented and unafraid organizer and advocate born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, based in Houston, Texas. Citlalli graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgetown University in 2015 and shortly after, returned to Houston to dedicate their time to policy fights against racism, xenophobia and transphobia in the Lone Star State. In the past three years, Citlalli has worked as an organizer with the ACLU of Texas, United We Dream, and Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast. Their work lives at the intersection of immigrant rights, reproductive justice and Trans and Queer visibility. In their professional roles, they have lead efforts to preserve Houston’s non-discrimination ordinance, end Harris County’s contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and expand access to reproductive health care. In their free time, they support powerful grassroots efforts lead by local Trans and Queer and working class organizers. Citlalli will begin their PhD in Anthropology in the fall to study how natural disasters shape racialization and legal and cultural citizenship.
