Sharon Brummell came to the Hilltop in January 2012 as the senior associate director of athletics for business and finance. She was later promoted to executive senior associate athletics director for business and finance and senior woman administrator in October 2021.

Brummell currently oversees the university’s athletic budget and provides strategic advice to the athletic director regarding contracts, revenue agreements, departmental policies and procedures, and scholarship support for all 29 sport teams. Brummell is also the administrator for women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, and women’s lacrosse.

Brummell came to Georgetown after working 20 years at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). There Brummell worked as an accountant and associate athletic director for budgeting and fiscal operations. She also helped shape the university’s gender-equity plans. Brummell was the bowling coach at UMES  for 14 years and is recognized as one the most successful coaches in bowling, winning three NCAA national championships and one USBC national championship. She is the only coach to have won both championships in the same year. 

Brummell is an active member of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA), the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA), the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), and the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). She was elected as CABMA’s president for the 2019–2020 membership year as well as being named the Division I Administrator of the Year for 2018–2019 by Women Leaders in College Sports. She is currently serving on the NCAA’s Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee and is a graduate of the NCAA’s Pathways Program (2013), an initiative that serves to prepare minority and/or women administrators to become athletic directors via education, training, and mentorship.

Brummell earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration and finance from Salisbury State University. She and her husband, Robert Sr., reside in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. They have one son, Robert.
